See the iLab Core Facility FAQ page or the iLab tips document for short tutorials for common requests and troubleshooting.

Overview of Services

The mission of the UW Small Animal Imaging and Radiotherapy Facility (SAIRF) is to provide innovative, state-of-the-art, affordable, noninvasive, high-resolution, in-vivo and ex-vivo imaging support to UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) members, UW researchers, and industries that use small animal models in their research. The following imaging equipment is available to all investigators on a Full-Service and/or Self-Service basis:

  • MILabs U-SPECT6CTUHR single photon emission tomography/ultra high resolution computed tomography¹,²
  • Siemens Inveon - microPET/CT positron emission tomography/computed tomography¹,²
  • Perkin Elmer IVIS - fluorescence/bioluminescence¹,²
  • VisualSonics Vevo2100 LAZR – ultrasound & photoacoustic imaging system¹,³
  • Faxitron UltraFocusDXA - cabinet x-ray system¹,²
  • 4.7T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)³
  • Perkin Elmer Wizard Gamma Counter¹
  • Abaxis VetScan HM5 and VS2 Hematology Analyzers¹,²
  • High-powered analysis workstations²
  • Fluoptics Fluobeam - near-infrared optical imaging¹,²
  • Xstrahl: SARRP, CIX3, and 320 - animal and cell irradiators¹,²

¹Operated by SAIRF Staff (Full Service)
²Operated by trained users (Self-Service)
³Operated by Medical Physics Department

We provide all of the resources essential to a comprehensive imaging study. Our umbrella IACUC protocol allows users to simply complete this animal transfer form to conduct imaging without having to amend protocols. We are equipped with an animal housing facility to hold user's animals for radioactive and longitudinal imaging studies. Located adjacent to the cyclotron and clinical imaging suite, radioisotopes and radiotracers are readily available to SAIRF users. We are here to provide as much requested assistance throughout the imaging process including the study design, animal husbandry, injections, scanning, data archival, analysis training, manuscript preparation, and image/data presentation.
